1. What is Thikana Shimla Senior Citizen Housing?
Thikana Shimla is a luxurious senior citizen housing community designed to provide a safe, comfortable, and fulfilling living environment for senior citizens. It offers a variety of services, including accommodation, food, medical support, recreational activities, and lifelong care for both seniors and specially-abled children and unmarried daughters of the parents, if any.
2. What services are provided at Thikana Shimla Senior Citizen Housing?
Thikana Shimla offers various services including food preparation (self-cooking or canteen/restaurant options), laundry services, medical facilities, housemaid and sweeper services, transportation, recreational facilities, and 24/7 security.
3. Can I cook my own food at Thikana Shimla Senior Citizen Housing?
Yes, you can cook your own food in your flat. Alternatively, you can purchase food from the in-house canteen or order room service from the restaurant on the premises in short term or permanent basis.
4. Is there a restaurant or canteen available at Thikana Shimla Senior Citizen Housing?
Yes, there is a restaurant and a canteen at Thikana Shimla. Residents can either dine at the restaurant or opt for room service. Also, there will be a family bar available inside our premises.
5. What is the present membership contribution / security deposit for Thikana Shimla Senior Citizen Housing?
The membership contribution / security deposit for the 4th phase of Thikana Shimla is approximately Rs. 30 Lakhs, which can be paid in 5 equal instalments.
6. Are there any additional charges for families with specially-abled children?
Yes, for families with a specially-abled child, an additional Rs. 10 Lakhs(Approximate) will be charged for the specially-abled child care accommodation, on top of the regular membership contribution / security deposit.
7. How is the maintenance cost calculated at Thikana Shimla Senior Citizen Housing?
The minimum monthly maintenance cost is approximately Rs. 5,000. However, the final maintenance cost will be determined based on the market rates at the time of the final agreement.
8. What services are included in the maintenance cost?
The maintenance cost covers general upkeep of the premises, regular health checkup of members, gym access, meditation room, car garage, driver service, front office service, wheelchair service etc, but additional services like housemaid, laundry, physiotherapy, etc., are available as optional add-ons.
9. Can I use the laundry services at Thikana Shimla Senior Citizen Housing?
Yes, laundry services are available, and you can either do your laundry in your own flat or use the provided laundry services, which are available on a daily or permanent basis.
10. Are there facilities for both short-term and long-term stays?
Yes, there are both long-term and short-term stay options available. Family members or other senior citizens can opt for short stays in the guest house.
11. Who is eligible to become a member at Thikana Shimla Senior Citizen Housing?
People aged 50 years or older are eligible to become members. They can stay with dependents such as a spouse, unmarried daughter, or a specially-abled child, with a maximum capacity of 3 persons.
12. Can a single person of opposite sex live together in a flat?
Yes, two single persons of opposite sex can live together in a single flat, as long as both individuals are single.
13. Can children with special needs stay at Thikana Shimla Senior Citizen Housing even after their parents' demise?
Yes, specially-abled children can stay at Thikana Shimla for life, even after the demise of their parents, under certain conditions and with the facility assuming full responsibility for their care.
14. What is the process for booking a membership for the 4th phase?
Membership booking for the 4th phase is currently open. Interested individuals can contact the facility for details and make the required payments in five instalments. But first, you have to register your name by paying a non refundable amount of Rs. 1000.
15. Can I stay with my unmarried daughter or son if they are over 50 years old?
Yes, parents over 50 years old can stay with unmarried children, including those over 50 years old, as part of the membership.
16. Is Thikana Shimla Senior Citizen Housing open to families with specially-abled children?
Yes, Thikana Shimla offers special membership options for families with specially-abled children, ensuring lifelong care and facilities for such children.
17. What is the arrangement for parents with specially-abled children?
It is mandatory for the parents with specially abled child to pay approximately Rs. 10 lakhs for a separate special child care unit, along with their regular membership contribution / security deposit. Though the final rate will be decided at the time of final agreement.
18. Can two sisters or two female friends stay together at Thikana Shimla Senior Citizen Housing?
Yes, two sisters or two female friends can stay together at Thikana Shimla.
19. Are there provisions for vocational training for specially-abled children?
Yes, vocational training programs are offered to specially-abled children to help them develop practical skills and foster independence.
20. What are the types of accommodation available at Thikana Shimla Senior Citizen Housing?
Accommodation options include independent Dwelling Units (DU) for seniors which will be approximately 375 sq ft carpet area. All the Dus will be River Ganges facing.
21. Are there any options for professional care for specially-abled children?
Yes, there are dedicated child care facilities where specially-abled children can receive full-time or day-care services depending on the family’s preference.
22. How are the living units designed for elderly residents?
The units which are 375 sq ft carpet area and Ganga facing,are designed with accessibility in mind, offering spacious layouts with modern amenities and safety features such as wide hallways, non-slip floors, and smart home technology.
23. Is there a dedicated space for seniors to meet and engage socially?
Yes, there are communal spaces such as a community hall, riverside lawn, and meditation room where residents can interact and participate in various activities.
24. What kind of medical support is available for residents?
Medical support includes routine checkups, doctor-on-call services, emergency transport, in-house nurse and caregiver services, in house ICU, and a pathological testing facility.
25. Are there emergency services available at Thikana Shimla Senior Citizen Housing?
Yes, there is 24/7 emergency medical and ambulance services available. The facility ensures immediate care and transport to medical centres if needed.
26. Can residents have housemaid and sweeper services?
Yes, residents can avail housemaid and sweeper services. These services are available on a monthly basis or can be taken on a daily basis for short stays.
27. What security measures are in place at Thikana Shimla Senior Citizen Housing?
The facility is equipped with 24/7 CCTV surveillance, trained security personnel, and attendants to manage any emergency situations.
28. How is the membership contribution / security deposit for Thikana Shimla Senior Citizen Housing paid?
The membership contribution / security deposit is paid in five equal instalments. For families with specially-abled children, an additional charge of Rs. 10 Lakhs is added to the membership fee.
29. What happens to the membership fee and Dwelling Unit (DU) after a resident's demise?
After a resident’s demise, the DU will be transferred to the next registered applicant, and the membership fee/security deposit will be refunded to the nominated beneficiary or specially-abled child. The specially-abled child care accommodation remains dedicated to the child.
30. Are the prices for services like laundry, care providers, and physiotherapy subject to change?
Yes, the prices for additional services like laundry, care providers, physiotherapy, and others are subject to change based on the market conditions and final agreement at the time of registration.
31. Is Thikana Shimla Senior Citizen Housing located in a quiet area, suitable for senior citizens?

32. Does Thikana Shimla Senior Citizen Housing offer any recreational activities for its residents?
Yes, Thikana Shimla offers a variety of recreational activities such as yoga, meditation, match making programs, music sessions, get together , day outing, nature walks, and games to keep residents mentally and physically active.
33. Can family members of residents visit Thikana Shimla Senior Citizen Housing ?
Yes, family members are welcome to visit. They can stay in the guest rooms within our premises, and there are no restrictions on family visits.
34. Are there any financial assistance options or payment plans available for membership?
Thikana Shimla offers flexible payment plans, including instalment options. However, there are no specific financial assistance programs. Residents can arrange financing through personal means or with the help of family members.
35. What measures are in place to ensure the safety and well-being of residents during adverse weather conditions?
Thikana Shimla is equipped with backup power supplies, and emergency evacuation plans to ensure residents’ safety and comfort during adverse weather conditions.
36. What is the process for handling emergencies, such as a medical or fire emergency?
Thikana Shimla is equipped with emergency response systems, including medical staff on-call, fire safety equipment, and evacuation procedures. In case of emergencies, immediate assistance is provided, and our own medical team is alerted for swift action.
37. Does Thikana Shimla Senior Citizen Housing offer any special programs for senior citizens with limited mobility?
Yes, Thikana Shimla has been designed with accessibility in mind. There are specially equipped accommodations for residents with limited mobility, including wheelchair-accessible pathways, lifts, and bathrooms. Additionally, physical therapy services are available to support residents with mobility challenges.
38. If member cooks their own food inside their DU, how will they get the supply of cooking gas?
Inside the premises, Thikana Shimla Senior Citizen Housing will provide cooking gas in 5kg cylinder.
39. Why the NGO’s name is “Thikana Shimla” ?
Started in Shimla village near Serampore.
40. Will the room be furnished?
The room will initially be empty with white or similar paint, offering a blank canvas for customization.
41. Can the members bring their own furniture?
Yes, members are welcome to bring their own furniture and decorate the room as they prefer.
42. Can the room be decorated on behalf of the members?
Yes, we can decorate the members’ room according to their preferences at actual cost.
43. What will be the mode of transportation inside the premises?
There will be E- Cart / Battery operated car available inside the premises for in house movement.
